Since 2014, France has multiplied intitiatives to commemorate World War I. In 2017, France will pay a tribute to Americans who came to help to push the ennemy back and who fell on the battlefield, far way from home.

Year 2017 will celebrate the memory of the 126,000 Americans who lost their lives on the battlefield in France. France is working closely with the US to make 2017 a major event and an important commemoration of the Franco-American friendship which started in 1917. For instance, they will involve personalities from the world of culture, science and education to talk about Wolrd War I and the major issues at the time.

2-day to 2-week itineraries in North-West France offer American visitors a chapter of a sadly shared History and an opportunity to meditate together on ways to build a peaceful world for future generations. From Lille to Amiens, to Reims, to Verdun or to Mulhouse, the traveller falls in a past of bravery, madness, military tactics and death.

In France, touristic service providers are ready to warmly welcome visitors throughout the year for a pilgrimage on these historic roads. On their end the US have launched a communication campaign to encourage Americans to travel to France in 2017 on rememberance sites.

2017 is a much anticipated touristic year for commemorating the centenary of the First World War and the Franco-American alliance.
