Thailand: Phuket to reopen to foreign tourists without any constraints from July 1, 2021!

The proposal was approved because of the acquisition of 930,000 doses to vaccinate residents

Phuket, Thailand, could be the first Asian destination to reopen to foreign tourists without any constraints. Foreign visitors will be allowed to enter Phuket without quarantine from 1 July 2021. The Phuket health authorities plan to purchase 930,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine before July 1 for the local population.

This is a strong message sent to the world and to the tourism industry.

Thailand's Phuket Island will once again be accessible to foreign travellers without a vaccine or quarantine from 1 July 2021.

"Phuket has been without a new case of Covid-19 for 89 days ... There is an urgent need for foreign tourists here, to boost the economy and the tourism sector," provincial deputy governor Pichet Panapong told the Bangkok Post.

He also said that the Infectious Diseases Committee had approved the proposal to reopen the province without any restrictions to foreign tourists from July 1, 2021.

The government continued.

930,000 doses of vaccine have been ordered for the local population

"Previously, a local resident earned about 40,000 baht a month on average. In February, that figure dropped to about 8,000 baht.

With no change, that figure will fall to 1,964 baht in July, which is below the poverty line."

To reopen, Phuket will have to vaccinate its population and to do so nearly 930,000 doses of vaccine have been ordered and will have to be administered before July 1, 2021, to the local population.

Mr Pichet said Phuket had 120,000 rooms in about 600 hotels.
