The international tourist attendance was at a “sharp decline” in France during the summer 2016, according to a short-term survey conducted by the Tourism Offices of France, Tourisme & Territoires, ANMSM and Atout France.

International visitors were lacking in Paris but also on the Mediterranean coasts and the North Atlantic.

The British showed the highest attendance rate in France during the season, followed by Germans, Dutch, and Belgians.

This study conducted between July 1st and August 15, 2016 among 481 professionals also demonstrates that the French visitor rate is considered “stable” by nearly half of them. A fact that limits damages for the summer 2016.

However, on some destinations of the French Riviera, Provence, Languedoc, Vendée, Normandie, and Côte d’Opale, the surveyed professionals noticed a decline in the number of French tourists.

Encouraging perspectives for the end of the season

Generally, activity requests are deemed stable compared to the summer 2015. Except for leisure activities for which 38% of professionals confirm seeing an increase.

The festivals of the months of July 2016 have also been quite successful with “very good results, if not better than last year,” specifies the statement.

Among the factors that had an impact on the touristic trends of the summer 2016, the study highlights the security component, the meteorological conditions that were substantially better than in the Spring or early July 2016, the need for assistance, and budgetary issues.
